The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The speculation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team is likely designing a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
